At Bethel Trust we provide free supermarket food twice a week, Tuesday and Friday afternoons to members of the public struggling with food poverty for a variety of reasons. No vouchers and no questions asked, we distribute free food to families, single parents, homeless individuals and vulnerable adults on a first come, first served basis. On average we provide to between 50 to 80 individuals each week, between 150 to 250 bags of food. We run our Foodshare project during the Jubilee Drop-in Centre times.
During 2020, we expanded our Foodshare programme to a fully fledged foodbank service to residents in Port Talbot and Neath. We were fortunate to secure funding which enabled us to purchase equipment, food and cover revenue expenses. We have been providing food to between 300 and 400 people each week during the pandemic.
In partnership with Fareshare and Neighbourly, we receive surplus food every week from Tesco Port Talbot, Lidl Port Talbot, Lidl Neath Cadoxton Road, Morrisons Port Talbot and also from members of the local community. We have also received funding to purchase food during the Covid pandemic (see our Funders page). Outside of Covid, we also provide hot meals twice a week during our Foodshare operations.
